3 more days before we shove off

As expected there is plenty still left to do. The new fridge we installed was damaged in shiping from the manufacturer and we had to wait for a replacement… wow they cut it close. My buddy Dave helped me swap it out with the replacement today with only three days to spare. It’s chilling nicely.

It seems like we took a lot of “stuff” off that accumulated over the past ten years only to start filling the spaces with other things we feel like we will need. I remember an old saying “more tools, less blenders” . It makes a lot of sense.

Welcome to our blog

Please enjoy this site which will document Mary and Toms big adventure (test).  Taking their boat, Clear Water, a 34′ Mainship Model 1, from Fairhaven / New Bedford, MA down LI sound  around NYC, Up the Hudson river, along the Champlain canal, across Lake Champlain and to the final destination Northward at St. Jean Richelieu, Canada. … A hop skip and a jump from Montreal.

Many long hours of preparation have gone into this trip already and we have not left the dock yet.    Fortunately we had a mild winter and we were able to get a jump on some of the modifications we felt were necessary for a 36 day round trip of approx 1,000 miles.   In February we installed a bow thruster to help maneuver in the locks, a solar panel to help keep the batteries charged up, a new bigger custom Fridge, a new galley range, and a 20lb propane tank and swim platform enclosure for cooking out.

We also had to purchase a quarantine flag, a new American flag and a courtesy Canadian flag.  Of course I had to get a non- resident fishing license for NY  to fish along the way.    We have all the canal guides needed and short of final food provisions and topping off the tanks we are about ready to shove off.    I have a feeling I’ll be putting the final touches on her this week as we are scheduled to head out on Fathers day June 17th.  Weather permitting we hope to stop at Bock Island Sunday night and then on to Hamburg Cove on the Ct river for Monday night.  Heres hoping for fair weather and calm seas.  TB
