Day 18 Vergennes, Vt

Posted by on July 7, 2012

Day 18 July 5, 2012
Vergennes VT (pronounced Virgins)
After yesterday…. we are at the other end of the spectrum for Lake Champlain.
Vergennes is up the 7 mile Otter creek. They built wooden ships here for the war of 1812. We are tied up at the town dock at the site of the old Macdonough shipyards. At the base of the falls they built the USS Saratoga in 40 days and launched other ships that helped us win the battle of Plattsburg in 1814.

We are sharing the dock space with a few other boats. Two 40’ Motor vessels from Plattsburgh and a 40’ Mainship from Montreal. TB
